Love Notes (Timeline Edition) ~ Episode 1: Aquila and Priscilla

Emily: Hey everyone! This is Love Notes (Timeline Edition) and I’m Emily Cox. Welcome to our first episode! Today I’m reporting LIVE from the 1st-century Corinth. I’m here with Priscilla and Aquila, a husband-and-wife tentmaking team known for hosting the Apostle Paul and teaching others about God, and  *turning to Aquila and Priscilla* It’s great to have you guys on the podcast today!

Aquila: “It’s great to be here.”

Priscilla: “Thanks for having us!”

Emily: “So, I know that you guys have had the Apostle Paul staying with you and even working with you in your business. It must have been amazing to have that time with one of the greatest preachers of the First Century. What was that like?”

Aquila: “Well, yes, spending time with Paul has definitely been a blessing for us. But something I admire about Paul is his humility. He isn’t focused on promoting himself – only on magnifying the Name of Jesus. And that is such an example to me as a husband and leader.

Priscilla: “Yes. Paul is different from those so called super-apostles who center their lives around themselves and their feelings. His life is centered around Jesus, and that’s what we want for our lives too.”

Emily: “Wow. What a great testimony. Now, since this is a show about marriage, can I ask you guys some marriage-related questions?”

Aquila: “Sure.”

Priscilla: *laughing* “Ok, but we do not have it all figured out.”

Emily: “What marriage advice would you give our audience?”

Aquila: “I think it really comes back to what we were just talking about – putting Jesus at the center of our lives instead of ourselves.”

Priscilla: “I agree.”

Aquila: “Emotions are important, but when we let our own feelings and thoughts distract us from following Jesus – well, that’s a recipe for disaster.”

Priscilla: “Yes. I think of what Paul wrote in his letter to the Galatians: “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.”1

Just like Jesus gave his life for us, we’re called to lay down our lives for one another. His mercy towards us motivates us to choose patience and kindness, even when we don’t feel like it.”

Aquila: “She’s so right. God’s grace through Christ empowers us to show grace toward each other and serve others out of love and gratitude as an act of worship. In another one of Paul’s letters, he writes about how we have been saved by grace through faith – not because of anything we’ve done – but then he goes on to say that we are God’s workmanship, born again in the likeness of Christ and commissioned to do the good works prepared for us.”

Emily: “That’s so amazing. You guys have given us a lot to think about. We’re out of time for now, but it’s been great talking to you both. Thanks for being part of the conversation!”

Priscilla: “Sure.”

Aquila: “Thanks for letting us do this!”
