The Birth of a Book

When we look around us today, it is clear that God’s view of gender, sexuality, and marriage drastically contrasts with the world’s thinking on these topics. Left to ourselves, we as human beings choose to suppress the truth that God has revealed about himself, leaving us in the dark about who He is and how He wants us to live. As believers, we continue to battle for faithfulness in these areas, fighting against both the sin in our own hearts and the ungodly messages coming from outside of us. We are surrounded by loud and confusing messages about what marriage is, what it means to be male or female, and even what it means to be human.

The idea for “God Calls it Good,” the book we are writing together, was planted when Karen was struck with awareness that even children from Christian families will be exposed to unbiblical messages about the meaning of marriage and family. We want to promote a foundational, gospel-grounded understanding of these topics, sharing a positive vision of God’s loving design for these gifts. A biblical foundation will equip kids to recognize twisted beliefs that go against His design for people and families. We hope that God Calls it Good will be a book that parents read together with their children, discussing the concepts introduced, keeping communication lines open and opening the door for biblically rooted conversations about tough topics.

While we are excited as we anticipate getting our book published and into the hands of families around the world if the Lord allows, we hope our readers will look to His inspired, infallible, and inerrant Word as their ultimate authority. Genesis, the book of beginnings, outlines God’s original and good design for marriage and family. Throughout the rest of Scripture, the amazing story unfolds of how God’s grace pierces the deep, heavy darkness of our sin, how He calls a people out of darkness into his marvelous light, and how he preserves the Church he loves. Truly, in His light we see light.
